Project Details
At the Mackay South Waste Recycling Facility (MSWRF), GE Maintenance Solutions (GEMS) successfully delivered a major project involving SBR Diffuser Replacements and SBR Cleans. The work was critical to maintaining efficiency and reliability across the wastewater treatment process.
Over four months, GEMS managed the removal of more than 600 tons of grit, rag, and Category 2 waste from the four SBRs and Bio-selectors. This large-scale cleaning program restored capacity and ensured compliance with environmental and safety standards.
The SBR cleans required specialist resources, including vacuum trucks, sealed transport vehicles, a 100-tonne crane, Franna cranes, and Bobcats. GEMS coordinated all labour and logistics, ensuring the safe removal and disposal of waste without disrupting operations.
As part of the project, GEMS also carried out complete SBR diffuser replacements. The installation of new EDI diffusers significantly improved aeration within the sequencing batch reactors. This upgrade boosted performance and reliability, securing the long-term efficiency of the MSWRF treatment system.
By managing all aspects of the work — from planning to equipment hire and commissioning — GEMS once again demonstrated its expertise in delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective wastewater infrastructure solutions.
