MNWRF Inlet Bypass & Screen Replacements

Project Details

GE Maintenance Solutions (GEMS) was approached by Mackay Regional Council (MRC) to replace the existing Inlet Screens and Screw Compactor at Mackay North Waste Recycling Facility (MNWRF).

Due to the potential risk of the work, GEMS proposed that a bypass of the Inlet be built. This was so the Inlet could be taken offline for a period to replace the Screens and Screw Compactor but also replace the flooring beams, do critical repairs to the internal concrete walls, and inspect and repair the Grit system.

GEMS then designed and built a bypass of the 2 x pump stations to a lined lagoon onsite. This allowed all solids to settle out where 3 x hire pumps pumped from the lagoon, bypassed the inlet, and pumped into the SBR’s.

GEMS was able to keep costs down for MRC by using fittings, valves, lay flat and other equipment MRC had at various sites. The bypass was online for 3 weeks and all Inlet repair work was completed within that period and within budget.
