Project Details
When councils and industry clients need reliable STP Inlet Screening Systems, they turn to GE Maintenance Solutions (GEMS) for proven expertise. From routine servicing through to full overhauls, our team has delivered inlet screen projects across Queensland, keeping critical wastewater treatment plants safe, efficient, and compliant.
The challenge? Every plant is different — and inlet screens must perform reliably 24/7 to protect downstream processes. GEMS provides the flexibility to work on-site or off-site, ensuring screening equipment continues to operate at its best.
Planning the Approach
Wastewater treatment plants never sleep. Shutting down screening systems can cause significant risks, so careful planning is essential.
Our team has worked across a wide range of inlet screen types, including:
- Band Screens
- Screw Conveyor Screening Systems
- Drum Screens (inclined and horizontal)
- Screw Compactors
We deliver both onsite maintenance and complete workshop overhauls, tailoring our approach to the needs of each site. For example, GEMS personnel were directly involved in the design and installation of new Band Screens at two plants, ensuring the equipment could be safely removed without requiring entry into inlet chambers — a major safety improvement for operators.
The Overhaul Works
Recent inlet screen projects have included:
- Rebuilding and refurbishing Band Screens for extended lifespan
- Overhauling Screw Compactors and conveyors to restore efficiency
- Welding and repairing damaged trough sections
- Replacing liners, brushes, and screen baskets for maximum screening performance
- Commissioning new inlet screens and training operators in safe removal methods
This wide scope of work shows the adaptability of our team to different designs, environments, and operational constraints.
Delivering Results
By working systematically, GEMS has been able to deliver inlet screen solutions that achieve:
- Increased equipment reliability
- Extended asset lifespan
- Safer, more efficient operations for plant operators
- Reduced maintenance risks and downtime
Our track record includes both major overhauls and innovative design solutions, proving GEMS can deliver practical results no matter the project scale.
Why This Matters
Inlet screens are the first line of defence in wastewater treatment plants. When they fail, the entire system is at risk. By investing in proper maintenance and upgrades, councils and industries safeguard essential community infrastructure.
At GEMS, we’re proud to support this work across the Mackay, Whitsunday, and Isaac regions — ensuring local communities benefit from safer, more reliable treatment systems every day.
Isaac Regional Council Contract
In May 2025, GEMS was awarded the Isaac Regional Council (IRC) Wastewater Treatment Plants Inlet Screen Maintenance contract. Under this agreement, our team inspected inlet screens across six treatment plants — Glenden, Nebo, Middlemount, Dysart, Clermont, and Moranbah.
Each inlet was assessed, with detailed service reports provided along with recommendations for upgrades and repairs. Critical repairs have already been completed at Clermont WWTP’s Screen, ensuring the site continues to operate safely and reliably.
This contract reflects GEMS’ reputation as a trusted partner for councils managing essential wastewater assets across regional Queensland.
